Dear Parents and Students,
The end of the school year is fast approaching! Seniors have four weeks to "Finish Strong"! Teachers and staff are prodding students to continue to work hard, to go the extra mile, to finish what they started. It is an exciting time. We are anxious for graduation night where we can celebrate with you the accomplishments of our Two Rivers' Trappers.
We are preparing for the first Senior Dinner! Any student that was a senior at Two Rivers during the current 2011-12 school year is eligible, whether you still attend Two Rivers or not. Dear Parents,
The final quarter of the school year has begun. Amazing how fast the year is moving. Big news! We
will be having a Two Rivers High 2011-12 yearbook! The cost will be $20 and we are currently
taking pre-orders for the yearbook in the office. A special thanks to Mrs. Anderson for all of
her work putting this together.
Students, time is short! The weeks left this year can be counted on your fingers. A little
procrastination may be the difference between graduating or not. We encourage all of our students
to take advantage of their education, build good habits and, as Mrs. Cox frequently says, "Invest
in yourselves!"

Dear parents,
We hope that the report card enclosed with this newsletter shows good academic
progress for your student. Regular attendance and productive participation continue to be the biggest challenges for our students. We have said repeatedly to our students, "Coming toschool most of the time and completing most of your work will get you most of the way to
graduation. If you would like to get ALL the way to graduation you need to come All of the
time and complete All of your work." Some of our students are taking this to heart and
accomplishing more this year than they have in a very long time. We praise their efforts.

Any "needed" credits beyond .375 must be earned on the student's own time.

The deadline for all completed makeup credit to be turned into our office is Friday, May 18. Any student with less than the required credit after May 18 will be eligible to move into Adult Education and complete their diploma. The New Year is the start of a busy time at Two Rivers. On January 11th Ogden honored Officer Jared Francom, who was killed recently. His funeral procession went from the Dee Events Center to the Ogden City Cemetery and happened to travel up 12th Street not far from Two Rivers. We were able to participate. We asked for volunteer students and faculty and we gathered a number of large American flags. These volunteers were able to head up to 12th Street and Washington Ave. and stand at attention as the funeral procession passed. It was a great opportunity for us to honor those who serve our community and we were proud to participate.
During January and February we will be celebrating diversity. We have a number of activities planned to help our students learn and practice tolerance. Our advisory classes and counseling department have put some wonderful lessons and activities together.
In February we get to be a part of something amazing! A piece of living history will be visiting our school. Elizabeth Eckford, one of the original Little Rock Nine, who played a major role in the desegreation of public schools in the South, will be coming to visit our school. She has agreed to come share her story of strength through adversity with our students. She will be speaking at Weber State Univesity on February 15th at 6:30 p.m. The Community is invited to attend free of charge. Then the following morning, February 16th, she will be coming to Two Rivers to address our students before attending a luncheon sponsored by the local chapter of the NAACP. Our students are working hard to earn special passes to a book signing event and the luncheon with Mrs. Eckford.
We have high hopes that these activities will help our students gain a greater appreciation for the community they live in, the diversity surrounding them, and the efforts of many people to make the world a better place.

Students and parents,
The holidays are upon us and that means we are approaching the mid-point of the school year. In a few short weeks we will be at the semester break (January 13). The majority of our students are working hard towards graduation and achieving their goals. I encourage you all to stay focused on academics and work closely with your advisors to make sure you are moving in the right direction. Stay on top of it now and you will be rewarded in May.
This year Two Rivers is organizing a service project for The Christmas Box House. The Christmas Box House, located on 12th street in Ogden, helps to prevent child abuse and to improve the quality of life for children who have been abused or neglected. The Christmas Box House is always in need of donated new items for children. Two Rivers will have a giving tree where students may choose an item that needs to be donated. Any donations, including cash, would be appreciated. Frequently requested items include the following: pajamas (all sizes), new clothing for boys and girls, general gift cards, movies (rated G or PG), CD’s, remote control cars, and other goodies. To see the full wish-list, check out their website at www.thechristmasboxhouse.org. Please send your donations to the school no later than Friday, December 16.
Thank you for your support. Together as students, parents and faculty we will keep moving forward towards future success.
Important dates to remember:
December 7th – Parent Teacher Conferences 1:30 – 6:30
December 22nd – Early out 12:00
December 23rd – January 1st. Christmas break. No school.
January 13th – End of 4th mini-term. No school.
Welcome to term two! We are one-fourth of the way through the year. For the majority of our students this means 27 weeks to graduation I This is the time to make sure you have a plan in place and you follow through with it. If you need to check your progress towards graduation take a moment and talk to your advisor. Stay on top of it now and you will be rewarded in May.
Attendance has improved in recent weeks at Two Rivers, and we have the NFL to thank! Our counseling department started a program to get students in class learning. After gathering donated prizes from local businesses we began our Football Challenge. Each week in advisory students fill out a form picking the winners of the NFL games each weekend. The next week in advisory they tally with winning guesses. To win a student must A. have PERFECT attendance for the previous week (no tardies or absences) and B. have the highest number of correct game guesses. The first week there were advisory classes with only one student with perfect attendance (making her the default winner regardless of her football knowledge), but as the weeks pass we have seen a Significant increase in the students able to participate. We know there is a direct link between attendance and graduation, so we are excited to see the positive impact this is having.
We have a number of exciting things happening this month. Guest speakers in advisory, dinners with authors, and role plays in class should make for an interesting month. We encourage you to be here every day and do your best on everything you attempt. You won't be sorry if you do I
ImPortant dates to remember:
Thanksgiving Break - No school November 23, 24 and 25.
December 2nd - End of third mini-term. Early out day.
December 7th - Parent Teacher Conferences 1:30 - 6:30
This year’s first mini-term is now behind us. We are pleased with the performance of the vast majority of our students. It is always rewarding to see students taking advantage of educational opportunities. We are grateful for our teachers who give extra time to help students. We have four teachers who have arranged their schedules to teach a 7th period and four teachers who have agreed to sty until 6:30 PM in the evening to teach P.M. School. We also appreciate Mr. Hansen, who has returned as our PM School Supervisor and has us off to a great start. Unfortunately for us he will soon be leaving Two Rivers. He has been assigned to Roy Jr. High as the new Administrative Intern. Congratulations Mr. Hansen!
At two Rivers High School we recognize the close link between attendance in school and graduation. Students who are here every day are the ones who walk away with their diploma. In an effort to encourage better attendance we have a few extra motivators. First, students with good attendance and grades can qualify for free T-shirts and Hoodies. Second, we have recently started a Football Attendance Sweepstakes. Students who have perfect attendance for one week have a chance to win prizes donated from local businesses. Third, we will again be participating in the Ken Garff Keys to Success program. Students who are excelling in school can win a variety of prizes including a new car! We encourage all Two Rivers High students to be in school every day to take advantage of what we have to offer. They won’t regret it!
Mrs. Thompson will be conducting SEOP’s with all seniors who were Two Rivers High students last year. During the SEOP we will be reviewing credits and any needed make up required for graduation, as well as, post high school goals. (New seniors already got an SEOP.) If the parent wishes to be a part of the SEOP please call Mrs. Thompson for an appointment – (801) 476-3925 – by Oct 7th.
A few of our students continue to struggle with complying with our dress code. Please pay attention to your students as they leave home each morning to insure that they are dressed appropriately. Low cut shirts and blouses as well as sagging pants and pants with large holes ripped in them are the most frequent violations. Also, watch for numbers on all clothing. Numbers of any kind are not allowed. Repeat offenders may be suspended in the future.
Asbestos Statement: “Federal regulations require that schools be inspected for the presence of asbestos, a toxic material that has been used in the construction industry for a number of years. This school has been inspected for asbestos containing materials and the results of the inspections are contained in the Asbestos Management Plan. The Asbestos Management Plan is available for your preview at this school, The District Office, or a copy of the plan can be provided to you for the cost of reproduction.”
